AYSA Competitive/Premier Program: Rainier Valley Slammers

The Rainier Valley Slammers (RVS) is a competitive program that offers children ages 9 to 18 a highly competitive environment. Teams for the Rainier Valley Slammers program are formed through a tryout selection process held February through May, depending on age groups.

Our Mission

The mission of the Rainier Valley Slammers is to develop youth players on and off the pitch. RVS is committed to providing athletes the opportunity to develop skills essential to positive growth in the sport of soccer and to inspire each player to a lifelong enjoyment of the game. Coaches not only will develop players in the technical, tactical, physical, and psychological components of the game, they will also teach the importance of commitment, good sportsmanship, teamwork, respect for self and others, and an ability to learn from both winning and losing. Our RVS coaches partner with parents and players to achieve these goals, realizing that only through commitment, hard work, and execution will we "win" both on and off the playing field.

Our Philosophy
Player Development is the primary objective of Rainier Valley Slammers. This development breaks down into four components: Technical, Tactical, Physical, and Psychological. As the age level increases, different components are stressed.
1.    Technical Growth: The individual ability to handle the ball consists of: dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, heading, and goal keeping. A solid Technical foundation increases the players’ ability to understand the Tactical aspects of the game.
2.    Tactical Awareness: A player must understand when to apply the appropriate technique based on the demands placed upon them by their opponents. Tactical awareness is a players understanding of a system of play or strategy. As a player progresses through age groups, Tactical play becomes a major component of our teaching.
3.    Physical Ability: Soccer is a demanding physical sport, and each player needs to obtain a certain level of fitness. A majority of this fitness training takes place in the actual training exercises. Physical fitness determines a lot in the game of soccer. When players become physically tired, they become mentally tired. When they become mentally tired they can no longer perform the technical skills needed. When players lose their technical ability, their tactics disappear.
Our Vision
Rainier Valley Slammers strives to be a world class soccer program through the development, progress and growth of our youth players. We want to prepare our players for the physical, mental and emotional complexities of the game, as wells as, the disciplines and responsibilities for life after soccer.
College Showcase
College Coordinator Megan DeHan (former player and coach with Seattle University), is on board to assist U15+ players and families. Megan works closely with Walid Khoury and his college staff at Slammers FC to help our players get national and regional attention, and to make sure our teams are placed into the most prestigious college showcase tournaments.
Tryouts are comprised of 2-3 sessions grouped by age/gender and are based on the player’s birth year. Tryouts are held each year for most age groups at the beginning of May, with the exception of the Boys U15 and above, which are held in February. Pre-registration for tryouts is strongly recommended and is available via the registration tab on our website a few weeks prior to the tryout sessions. The goal of the club is to notify all players of the tryout results within 48 hours of the completion of the final tryout session for each age/gender. The final decision regarding accepting players for a team will be made by the respective coach with input from technical evaluators. A parent/player/coach team meeting is held shortly after team selection.

Our Difference
Slammers FC S. Cal
The one thing that makes our club different than the rest is our association with Walid and Ziad Khoury, Founders and Directors of Coaching for Slammers FC of Newport Beach, California. Slammers FC is one of the most successful and prestigious youth soccer clubs in the United States (www.slammersfc.org).
Walid and Ziad help train our players and our coaches on a continual basis, and we are incorporating their highly successful curriculum and style of play in all our teams. Walid and Ziad are there for us at the national level, helping our teams and players get the attention they deserve from tournament directors and college coaches.
This partnership is helping us build a truly premier soccer program. Rainier Valley Slammers is a member of the Regional Club League (RCL) and plays against the other top premier clubs in Washington state.
Most importantly, we put player development, and communication with parents first. All of our players are guaranteed significant playing time throughout the year. We put special emphasis on developing our young players, and showcasing older players to college coaches. Winning is important, but training young people to be great soccer players and great students and citizens is our main mission!
