Referees are needed to officiate the many hundreds of soccer matches that are held in our area each season, including matches for Mod, Rec, Select and Premier programs. To help alleviate the shortage of referees in our area, AYSA is encouraging its members to become qualified to referee. Youth members as young as 12 years old can be solid referees, especially for Mod and Rec matches. Becoming a referee can be a rewarding experience for soccer enthusiasts, and it’s a great way to earn extra spending money too!
To become a referee, you must attend an entry level clinic facilitated by a USSF instructor. You can find out more about what it takes to become certified by visiting Washington State Referee Committee. The Committee is the official USSF affiliated soccer referee organization for the state of Washington. On its site, you’ll find links titled "How to Become a Referee" and "Clinic & Events Schedule."
AYSA’s Referee Director, Bob Zipp, will be conducting another entry level clinic on February 15, 2014, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Auburn High School Library. To register for this clinic, click here.
