AYSA provides opportunities for players of all skill levels. The goal of the Rec program is to provide a fun and rewarding atmosphere where boys and girls between the ages of 10 and 18 (U11 to U19) can develop soccer skills, foster friendships, stay physically fit, and have fun. Every effort will be made to find a team for every player who signs up.
AYSA is now part of the South Sound United League (SSUL) which is comprised of 7 associations in South King and Pierce counties. SSUL's mission is to provide local, like-versus-like competition at an affordable price for recreational and select teams. The SSUL is for teams Under-10 and older. Teams are placed based on competitive ability and past league experience. For more information about the SSUL, click here.
Each year after registration is complete gender specific teams are created based upon the number of players and coaches who have registered. Rec soccer teams generally begin practicing in July or August with games beginning the first Saturday after Labor day. Some teams, however, choose to play in a late summer tournament or two, in Winter indoor leagues, and Spring outdoor leagues. The specific Rec program is driven by the coach and the team, and the level at which they want to compete.
During the Summer and Fall, most Rec teams practice twice a week with one game on the weekend. Rec teams will generally be assigned grass practice fields. The season is usually ten games long. U11 teams play on ¾ size fields, with 9 a side. U12 and older play full field soccer with 11 a side.
The AYSA board may change/revise this policy as needed.
