During the holiday season, RVS conducts a Food & Gift Drive to assist families in need, as identified by Communities In Schools of Auburn. In 2016, RV Slammers teams donated over $1,300 worth of clothing, gifts and grocery cards to 3 families at Washington Elementary School who were identified as needing assistance by Communities In Schools Auburn. In 2014, RVS worked with school coordinators at 3 different elementary schools to provide food and gifts for 7 families. Those 7 families had a total of 20 children, for whom RVS teams provided clothing and gift items. A total of 11 RVS teams participated, and the total of their contributions, including gift cards for groceries, was just over $2,700. In December 2013, a total of 11 RVS teams combined efforts to provide gifts and food on behalf of 7 Auburn School District families. Those 7 families, who had a combined total of 29 children, received new clothes and gifts for the children, as well as non-perishable food items and grocery store gift cards to ensure they had a complete holiday dinner. RVS players also set up a food collection site at an Auburn grocery store. In 2012, a total of 13 RVS teams participated in the Food & Gift Drive. New clothing, toys and games, and food items for a complete holiday dinner, were collected on behalf of 15 families. To complement the donations made by RVS families, the teams held a bake sale and collected non-perishable food items from the community at a site in downtown Auburn. An additional $300 was raised on behalf of the Food and Gift Drive project! Thanks to the generosity of the grocery store customers, over $300 worth of food items and cash donations were collected and presented to the Communities In Schools of Auburn project coordinator to assist additional families in need.
